Santa Fe County unit (~7,610-10,678 ft) centered on the steep, rugged Sandia Mountains with the Ortiz and San Pedro ranges, spruce-fir-aspen on upper slopes and pinyon-juniper below.
A Sandia/Ortiz Mountains unit nationally known for a January mule deer archery hunt, with pronghorn also present; black bear (NMDGF Bear Zone 8) and cougar are huntable and a spring turkey season has been offered. Confirm all seasons and draw with NMDGF.
About 17% public land — mostly Forest Service (Cibola NF / Sandia Mountain Wilderness, no vehicles) plus a little BLM in the San Pedro Mountains; valley floors are largely private.
