Game Management Unit 2C in San Juan County, northwestern New Mexico, covers a high-desert basin generally from 5,500 to 7,300 feet with sagebrush flats, low hills with scattered pinyon-juniper, sandstone cliffs and dry creek beds, and forested ponderosa pockets on the higher northeastern edge. Elk, mule deer, pronghorn, black bear, and cougar are huntable through the NMDGF draw. About 89–90% of the unit is public land, dominated by approximately 403,000 acres of BLM; expect oil-and-gas road infrastructure throughout. A valid New Mexico hunting license is required. Elk, mule deer and pronghorn are managed by NMDGF through its draw with a license required; black bear is huntable (Unit 2C lies in an NMDGF bear management zone) and cougar is huntable statewide. Refer to NMDGF for current season dates.
