Northwest San Juan County, the portion of GMU 2 west of the Los Pinos River and north of the San Juan River; barren desert flats ~5,050-5,500 ft rising to low hills under ~7,215 ft, with river-bottom cottonwood/willow and juniper-pinyon higher up.
Elk, mule deer and pronghorn are managed by NMDGF through its limited-entry draw, with a license required; black bear is huntable (Unit 2A falls in an NMDGF bear management zone) and cougar is huntable statewide. Check NMDGF for current dates.
San Juan Basin unit with a high public-land share (~65-67% public), dominated by BLM (on the order of ~286,000 BLM acres), with interspersed state trust and private parcels and oil-and-gas road infrastructure.
