Whitewater Mesa Fun Kite Flying Picnic Saturday 3rd April 2027 April is kite flying weather on Whitewater Mesa! The Springtime winds arrive, and the clocks change to Mountain Daylight Time. So gather up your family and friends and come to Glenwood and join us for the 21st Whitewater Mesa Fun Kite Flying Picnic. In 2026 we were joined by 220 people and some amazing kites. There is plenty of space to celebrate the wind without fences or power lines to tangle your kite strings, and room to park for your tailgate picnic. While you are here and for a completely different experience, walk one or all five of the labyrinths and a maze across the road at Whitewater Mesa Labyrinths. Also hike the Gold Dust trail into the Gila Wilderness which starts at the East edge of the kite field. PLACE: Across the road from Whitewater Mesa Labyrinths located at 355 Bursum Road, Glenwood. Second house on the left after mile marker 3 on NM 159 off Hwy 180 West, between Glenwood and Alma, NM 88039. GPS 33.3765, -108.852 NB: If using MapQuest, be sure to enter Glenwood NM not Datil, NM after 355 Bursum Road or you will end up 35 miles away on a trail up the mountain in the Gila Wilderness! ADMISSION: Free. There will be a free raffle drawing for a kite at 2.30pm, so be sure to pick up your free raffle ticket on arrival at the gate with the “Kites and Labyrinths” sign. WE PROVIDE: Water, kite mending supplies, loaner kites, a porta-potty. YOU BRING: your picnic, your kite, your laughter, the whole family and all your friends, your sunhat and something to sit on. Dogs must stay on a leash.
