"Permutations" by Richard Potter: July 1 - July 29 Potter organizes colorful abstract encaustics forming a narrative of life. Permutations are a way of organizing things into a definite order. This includes relationships forming a narrative of life. Painting explores my view on that concept through abstraction. Familiar shapes intermingle and occupied spaces interact with negative, open areas. The paintings investigate the myriad relationships between hard and soft shapes, warm and cool hues, acidic and alkaline colors that advance and recede containing contrasting energies. These interactions create a harmony of movement. These works are an exploration of lived experience - a morning or afternoon walk, shifting colors, sounds, scents; the rhythms of life. Observation blends with memory and imagination, allowing direct experience and its recollection to coexist within the same space. We have the experience of living the moment combined with our memory of it. They live side by side in our being. These paintings organize such elements into structures of design where form, color and field come together to create and recreate a space, a moment, in time. – Richard Potter
