We are honored to welcome back our dear friend and world-renowned clarinetist, Eddie Daniels, to Dave’s Jazz Bistro—this time for a truly special occasion: the celebration of his 85th birthday. Joining him is legendary pianist, composer, and arranger Roger Kellaway for an intimate and unforgettable evening of music, stories, and reflection. Over the course of the performance, Eddie will take audiences on a journey through the highlights of his remarkable career—one that has redefined the role of the clarinet in both jazz and classical music. From selections inspired by his deeply personal and acclaimed Five Seasons project, to unforgettable moments from his storied past, Eddie will share the music and memories that have shaped his artistic life. Audiences may hear tales like the night he appeared on The Johnny Carson Show, dazzling listeners with one of the fastest “Bach beats” ever performed, along with other stories from a lifetime spent at the highest levels of music. Eddie Daniels, who began playing clarinet at age 13 and earned his Master’s degree from Juilliard School, is a multiple Grammy Award winner and a pioneering force in blending jazz and classical traditions. Legendary critic Leonard Feather once remarked, “It’s a rare event in jazz where one man can all but reinvent an instrument.” Eddie has done just that. Roger Kellaway brings an equally extraordinary legacy to the stage. A Grammy Award-winning pianist, composer, and Academy Award nominee, Roger has recorded more than 250 albums and composed music for film, television, and stage. He is widely recognized for composing “Remembering You,” the iconic closing theme for the classic television series All in the Family. Over the course of his remarkable career, he has collaborated with artists including Tony Bennett, Van Morrison, George Harrison, Sonny Rollins, and Yo-Yo Ma, and has long been celebrated for his inventive artistry, warmth, and musical brilliance. Roger and Eddie share a deep musical connection that promises an evening both virtuosic and deeply personal. To mark the occasion, the chefs at the Santa Fe School of Cooking will prepare one of Eddie’s favorite birthday meals, creating a dining experience as memorable as the music itself. Join us for this rare and heartfelt celebration—an evening of masterful artistry, joyful storytelling, and the enduring spirit of two true jazz legends.
