Camels first appeared at El Morro in 1857 as part of a U.S. military experiment to cross the desert between Texas and California. This special commemorative event is a fun and educational opportunity to learn about camels and their journey across the Southwest, with activities for both kids and adults. Most importantly, the event will feature LIVE camels! Camel expert Doug Baum will offer programs throughout the day, giving his insight into the camel's history and care. If you've never seen or been close to a camel, this is your chance to come learn more about these fascinating creatures! Traffic control may be in place if parking lots reach capacity. Please follow directions from event staff.
